This is a Dedication to Mothers who Give Birth Beyond the Womb

This past Sunday marked the beginning of the celebration of motherhood across the land.
Yet, as I sit in many spaces with women across the diaspora of motherhood, I am reminded that this story is far greater than one definition.
Scripture shows us women who longed for children but were placed in seasons of waiting.
We see Sarah, who waited for decades.
Hannah, who cried out from the depths of her grief.
Elizabeth, who was called righteous before God.
And Rachel, whose longing is remembered as deeply human and sacred.
These stories widen our understanding and remind us that
motherhood is one expression of womanhood—but not the definition of it.
Today, I honor the women who give birth beyond the womb—
in influence,
in community,
in leadership, mentorship, faith, and resilience.
I honor the blessed aunties,
the foster moms,
the grandmothers,
the bonus moms,
the “gma’s”
the neighborhood grandmas,
and the women who have chosen to mother entire communities—often sacrificing self.
These women are the unsung heroes among us.
Without outward recognition, without constant acknowledgment,
they continue to show up—time and time again.
You are not less than.
You are a part of.
You are vital.
You are seen.
So as we celebrate motherhood this season and beyond,
let us not forget the many women who have stood beside mothers—
helping to raise, guide, pray for, and pour into generations.
Women who have mothered in ways that may never be publicly named,
but are deeply felt and forever impactful.
To my Linked Arms Queens—
I see you. I honor you. I thank you.
In Respect, Acknowledgment, Honor… and Gratitude.
Ms. Mary
